The Belt Railway of Chicago interchanges with every railroad coming into Chicago, and here is the Belt’s 33 miles of mainline. 17 pages show the mainline and branches, but do not include maps of the many yards the Belt serves. Included are two color charts that show the various clearing yards and tonnage density. The BRC not only serves each railroad coming into the great Chicago railroad hub, but also switches nearly 100 industries. In 1996, the Belt was owned by Burlington Northern Santa Fe, Canadian National, Canadian Pacific Railway, CSX, Norfolk Southern and Union Pacific Railroad.
