These four DVDs are the result of two talented and longtime railroad video producers joining forces: Les Jarrett at Railway Productions and Greg Scholl at Greg Scholl Video Productions. They’ve combined their talents and have created an award-winning series. You get all four America By Rail DVD’s: “The Heartland”, The West Coast”, “Winter Wonderland” and “Route of the Southwest Chief”.

“The Heartland”
A coast-to-coast trip from Washington, DC to San Francisco aboard Amtrak’s Capitol Limited and California Zephyr. See our nation’s capitol, lush Ohio Amish Farmlands, the Great Plains, the Rockies and Sierras, before skirting along side San Pablo Bay and on into Oakland and San Francisco. Along the way visit the following steam and diesel tourist railroads: Strasburg Railroad, Potomac Eagle, Western Maryland Scenic Railroad, Ohio Central, Boone & Scenic Valley, Omaha Zoo Railroad, Durango & Silverton, Heber valley, Virginia & Truckee, Napa Valley Wine Train, Roaring Camp & Big Trees, and Santa Cruz Trees & Pacific. Includes music composed especially for this program by noted television composer Michael Lynch, as well as lots of natural train sounds. 2 hours.

“The West Coast”
A spectacular trip from San Diego, California to Seattle, Washington aboard Amtrak’s “San Diegan” and “Coast Starlight” . See miles of sandy beaches, then climb past Mt. Shasta for a snowy ride through Oregon’s Cascades. Along the way, we stop at the following interesting train rides: California Western, Yosemite Mt. – Sugar Pine RR, Sacramento Southern, Spirit of Oregon Dinner Train, Mt. Hood Railroad, San Diego Trolley (electric) , and the Seattle Monorail! 83 minutes.

“Winter Wonderland”
See West Virginia’s spectacular New River Gorge after a rare (for West Virginia) heavy snowfall aboard Amtrak’s “Cardinal” . Plenty of blue sky and white, fluffy snow makes for a lovely winter setting. Along the way, we relive some of the heavy mainline steam locomotives that have operated over this route in the past several years. Steam locomotives shown include Nickel Plate 765, Milwaukee Road 261, C&O 2765, C&O 614, and Pere Marquette 1225. Lovely scenes in Kentucky and West Virginia! A Telly Award Winner! 90 minutes.

“Route of the Southwest Chief”
Follow Amtrak’s Southwest Chief from Chicago all the way to Los Angeles. Enjoy the scenery as you depart the Windy City, then race past farms, the Great Plains, over the southern Rockies, and on through the Great Southwest before your arrival in the “City of Angels”. Sample dinner in the diner, the sightseer lounge, and your own private bedroom! You’ll visit 8 exciting steam and diesel tourist railroads, plus see such nearby attractions as Abilene’s Dwight D. Eisenhower Museum, historic Dodge City, and a brief visit to old Santa Fe. And of course, we pause for a visit to the Grand Canyon, one of the highlights of any trip aboard the Chief. Tourist railroads covered: Abilene and Smoky Valley Railroad, Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad (C&TS), Santa Fe Southern, Verde Canyon Railroad, Orange Empire Railway Museum, Knott’s Berry Farm Railroad, Angel’s Flight Railway, and the American Orient Express. A Telly Award Winner! 90 minutes.
