Southern # 4501 is back in the news these days. After years spent out of the steam program and on static display, Norfolk Southern and the Tennessee Valley Railroad Museum are working together to restore this wonderful old steamer and put it back on NS rails.
Here we get to see Southern Railway steam engine # 4501 on a couple of different Norfolk Southern lines prior to its hopefully last retirement. Dressed in her usual green, we’ll see 4501 on a ferry move out of Chattanooga (with a black firebox) leading a freight train… and then out of Kingsport to Appalachia and Richlands.

This DVD shows Southern #4501 in its splendid green paint as it pulls excursions on Norfolk Southern rails in the 90’s.

Shot sometime between 1993-1997, program would contain the last time that the green steamer itself would operate on real NS tracks before the shutdown. It would have been nice to have more information on when and where these scenes were shot.
