Travel to the Canadian province of Manitoba where we spend time watching a variety of Canadian National, and Canadian Pacific trains and motive power. This show was shot in June of 1999, when more passenger and freight shared the tracks, and we see the Churchill passenger train, which had an FP9 as power on this eastbound section of the run to Winnipeg. During our day we see some older power on Canadian National, and get some special bonuses with some unexpected activity on the Canadian Pacific. In addition to the train action, we also see some track work being done, as well as some neat comparison shots with some steam trains shot at the same spots 40 years earlier. We end our day in Portage la Prairie with a neat sunset, but that’s not where the DVD ends. After Portage we shot some more CP action as we headed west and that extra footage is included in this new DVD. This footage contains CPR switching and trains at Bredenbury and Wynyard, Saskatchewan, with one train using a pair of GP38-2’s. There are several grain trains seen, including one that we chase for awhile. This Saskatchewan section is not narrated. This is a fast paced show with good lighting and variety.

  1. Lloyd

Portage La Prairie, 85km west of the Manitoba provincial capital is an excellent location for railfans. Greg Scholl does an excellent job covering the action as both the CPR & CNR pass very close to each other through the city. VIA Rail Canada is also seen with “the Canadian” to Vancouver BC., & the VIA train to Churchill MB. behind a FP9. The video also includes a visit to Saskatchewan for some CPR action, some 320+km west of Portage La Prairie, While the video is 20 years old, and things have changed a bit, the presentation is excellent and worth owning.

Made in 1999 & 2000 On video an d transferred to dvd in 2010, lots of CN and CP action. Great scenery and more action, well worth the price.

  3. Ricky

While the original 1999 or 2000 tape was converted on dvd in 2010, there are more scenes of today’s CN & CP, that are on the next day.
