Cajon Pass is the busiest railroad mountain crossing in the United States – with 100 trains up and over the pass, over 4 tracks, every day. This show covers the most exciting, most well known spots on the pass. In 14 miles of the West Slope we see Sullivan’s Curve, Mormon Rocks, Blue Cut, Silverwood and the Summit – and more. With grades as steep as 3% and both Union Pacific and BNSF pouring trains back-to-back through this 14 mile funnel landscape, this is exciting big-time railroading!

This show was shot in the very last months of 2019. It is as new as we can bring you. We include trains running through rare snow on the pass, catching the action from the air in the very last days of 2019. Snow was not the only unusual visitor to the pass in 2019. Watch as we feature a few scenes of Big Boy 4014, Union Pacific’s giant steam engine, as it runs through SIlverwood.

5 reviews for 14 Miles, Cajon Pass, The Busiest Railroad Mountain Pass in the United States

  1. Dan

A welcome addition to the Cajon Pass programs already on the railfan video market. Rock-solid videography from all the best-known Cajon locations, informative narration and a couple of nice “extras” — remarkable drone footage, rare snow scenes, vintage flashbacks and a contemporary look at Union Pacific Big Boy 4014. If you’ve got other Cajon programs in your collection, this is a nice addition; if this is your first, it’s a great place to start.

  2. rickyfreni

Not only does this program feature BNSF & Union pacific freights big & small, but there are also a handful of clips from another Pentrex title: Cajon Highlights 1976.

  3. Joy

Was at Cajon Pass several yrs ago. Searched to find locations. Wanted to see whats changed. Great location to watch trains. This DVD gives a good overview of the area, before a 1st timer heads there and tries to find these locations.

  4. Everywhere West

If you like the big modern engines, and a little history to go with your trains, this is a great show. I liked it. A guy can get tired of big GEs…but that’s what railroading is these days. This is a thoroughly up-to-date look at the pass.

  5. FRANK

Average overall. Modern-day snapshot of Cajon Pass. Video quality varies, as if shot with different quality cameras and merged into one presentation. Usual Pentrex narrator, but some of the dialogue seems without purpose, and at one point I wondered if he was getting paid by the word.
