Kansas City is a railroad town!

Kansas CityIn the Midwest the Big 3 railroad towns are Chicago, St. Louis and Kansas City. Which one is the bigger railroad hub? Well, Chicago sees more trains, but, and this surprised me, in 2003 Kansas City moved more freight through town! Kansas City saw over a Billion Tons of freight roll through that year. Things may have changed since then, though I could not find more recent numbers.

Even farther back than that, there were a few more railroads serving KC than are around now… if you’d like to go all the way back to 1993, you can see some fallen flags in our DVD “Mainlines into Kansas City”.
