In June of 2017, The Friends of the Milwaukee Road 261 brought 4-8-4 #261 and passenger consist to eastern North Dakota and western Minnesota for a series of employee appreciation and public trips on the Red River Valley & Western. On Friday June 2nd, 261 pulled two excursions from Davenport, ND 40 miles west to Lisbon, ND. Due to a lack of turning facilities on the railroad, one-half of all trips would be pulled by diesel locomotives. A minor mechanical issue with 261 caused her to be sidelined on one of Saturday’s trips, but all was well in time to pull her last trip, a sunset excursion from Breckenridge, MN 35 miles to Kindred, ND and return with the 261 facing east.
br>Following four days of successful excursions both public and private, 261 and train departed Breckenridge on Sunday the 4th to make the 200 mile trip back to Minneapolis Junction, the home of The Friends of the 261.

In the Belt Line version of the 261’s late May/early June 2017 visit to the Red River Valley & Western’s 30th anniversary, the 1944 Alco Built S1 class 4-8-4 operated a variety of employee appreciation specials at locations like Davenport Wye (not Iowa), Leonard, the Sheldon ND Grain Elevators & abandoned station, the diamond where it crossed over the Canadian Pacific before it was merged with Kansas City Southern about 5 years after these footages were recorded, The S Curve at Lisbon (not Portugal), Breckenridge, Kindred, more grain elevators at Colfax, Dwight, Doran, Campbell, Tintah Diamond, Charlesville, Norcross, Pacing near Herman, Donnelly, the Morris Grain Elevators, Clontarf, Benson, De Graff, Kerkhoven, Pennock, Wilmar, Kandiyohi, Grove City, Howard Lake, Minnetonka, & concludes at the Minnesota Twin Cities.

Aside from BLP, other producers like Steve Mitchell of Yard Goat Images, & Les Jarrett from Railway Productions were also there for the entire journey in the Upper Midwest, despite the medium speed of the wind.

A pair of GP38-2s numbers 2194 & 2628 with their operation life saver logos are also shown throughout the program, as well as a few BNSF Freights.
