The first all-diesel video from Herron Rail Video. From crisp, all color, 16mm film shot in the CHicago area between 1969 and 1971. This is the time many railroads were trying to shed passenger trains or merge with other railroads, so there is a lot of change afoot.

We’ll see great views of Burlington Northern (the product of a big merger), Milwaukee Road, the Penn Central (speaking of a big merger!), Gulf Mobile & Ohio, Santa Fe, Chicago’s own Elgin Joliet & Elgin, the Erie Lackawanna and more – now – fallen flags, plus very early Amtrak trains heading into and out of Chicago. We’re talking a lot of passenger, and of course, freight, traffic.
