European Railway 79: Italy, Switzerland, Slovakia, Belgium

* Italy/Switzerland – the first section of a detailed look at the Italian side of the Simplon Pass route between Brig and Domodossola. Freight traffic dominates with a wide variety of motive power. Filmed between 2015 and 2017.
* SLOVAKIA – a study of traffic on the main rail route out of Slovakia towards the Czech Republic from Bratislava. Classes 193, 230, 240, 242, 263, 361, 363, 380, 381, 383 and 671 all make an appearance on a variety of freight, Eurocity passenger and local stopping services. Filmed in 2017.
* France – TGVs at speed to the south-west of Paris.
* Belgium – a study of traffic on the busy route to the south-east of Braine-le-Comte. A surprising amount of freight is on offer, plus loco-hauled passenger trains and 1970s-built electric units. Classes 13, 27, 62, 77, AM70TH, AM-08, class 186, 6400 and class 18 are all seen.
* Italy/Switzerland – we conclude our visit to the Simplon route with a look at the lines around Domodossola including the metre-gauge line out to Locarno up to the town of Trontano with F.A.R.T. electric units. . Classes 185, 186, 420, 421, 425, 460, 465, 474, 475, 484, 485, 486, 535, 560, 610, 620 and Historic BLS Ae4/4 all appear amongst some stunning Alpine scenery, in this rarely photographed or filmed Swiss main line which stretches in to Italy.
