Climb aboard the Whitewater Valley Railroad for a 17 mile ride 150 years back in time! The Whitewater Valley, operating between Connersville and Metamora Indiana, is a former New York Central branchline built on the towpath of an old canal. During the 70 minute train trip, you will go from the floodplains of the West Branch of the Whitewater River to the rolling countryside near Metamora, a small town which has been maintained in the traditions of an 1850’s canal town. At Metamora, a working grist mill, restored canal lock, gift shops, restaurants and an operating horse-drawn canal boat await your arrival. And, along the ride there, you will see the remains of the old canal and locks.
Delight to the sights and sounds of the 750 HP Lima Hamilton diesel…the last operating Lima in the world! The 4-cycle Hamilton 6 cylinder prime mover has great sound, and this program captures it in all its glory! Views from trackside, onboard, in the cab, and on top of the train provide scenes found nowhere else.
