The Southern Pacific in the 1950s was a railroad in transition, and we see that transition here in original 8mm and 16mm silent film, From the SP’s famous cab forwards to new and colorful diesel switchers, we see the SP as it moves from steam to diesel. As diesel took over passenger duties, the public had a real hunger for the days of steam and the Southern Pacific obliged with steam powered excursions in the late 1950s. We’ll see several outings, some steam only and some with early cab unit diesels assisting.
This is silent film expertly digitized and enhanced. Backed by music, this is an enjoyable half hour trip back in time.
