It’s September 1988 — the BNSF merger is still several years away and Montana Rail Link is only about a year old. And against some of the most breathtaking backdrops in North American railroading, Burlington Northern and MRL put on a great show! This is a nice look back at locomotive types, paint schemes and train consists from more than thirty years ago. Don’t be put off by the fact that this is “amateur footage”; it’s well shot and well edited, and a thoroughly enjoyable program.

Pre-BNSF days, cascade greens, heavy mountain railroading, in a region spectacular for scenery. Put it all together and you have a wonderful video to enjoy that will always be a favorate. Sandpoint is an amaizing place to see, and this video shows it at it’s finest. Well done.

Let’s face it, amateurs do good work too! This is on par with most work of the era, and there’s a lot of interesting power going on that BN had in the 90s.
