Enjoy the only Union Pacific Steam locomotive to never be retired as we witness 4-8-4 number 844 in action during the 50’s, 60’s and 70’s, plus a trip 1981. These rare films include numerous trips through the decade of the 60’s, and you will see the transition to 8444 when a new GP30 gets the 844 number. Along the way, in the 60’s and early 70’s we see a multitude of trips, and sometimes enjoy one-way ferry trips which would be on the point of regular passenger trains. There are also servicing and roundhouse scenes as the engine is made ready and turned on the turntable. There is even a short break-in run from Omaha as well as other surprises during this program. Most of this program is 8mm and 16mm silent film and so we have added narration and appropriate background music.

Absolutely wonderful footage of 844’s early excursions. Great seeing 1243, 3985, and 4023 as well!

Another nice one by Greg Scholl and his crew… You will LOVE the older video quality of the vintage film, as the previous reviewer has stated.

Well despite that Greg doesn’t have a lot of western steam DVDs on the market, this would be a mix of both western/vintage steam action in the western dvds link. Therefore like various GSVP vintage programs, all footages are 100% silent with appropriate/unidentified songs. This DVD however, features a bonus segment of rare 1981 sound films of 844 in action from Greg’s Super 8 Sound Film Era. The Main Feature However Focused on 16mm Silent Films From Everett Rorher & Perry Becker.
