Exciting railroad action on the Wisconsin Central Ltd. Now a fallen flag, but the WC was going strong when this footage was shot! See WC freight and passenger trains as they travel across Northeastern Wisconsin, Upper Michigan and South Central Ontario. The Wisconsin Central action includes: mainline freights, locals, ore trains, yard switching and Algoma Central passenger trains. F-units are seen on both freight and passenger trains and most Wisconsin Central diesel models are featured.

Plus steam excursions are also briefly seen with Soo Line 1003 and Milwaukee Road 261… all on Wisconsin Central’s exciting Northern rails. Volume One of a four volume series on the WC from Plets Express. Includes a nice map of the area covered.

In Part 1 of the Plets Express’ Wisconsin Central series, there are a parade of diesels on not only the WC itself, but also other road names like the Algoma Central with 1755 now at the Potomac Eagle, the Escanaba & Lake Superior with Great Northern Baldwin RS12 Diesel number 300, a 1992 Flashback to the Green Bay & Western, Chicago & Northwestern, Union Pacific, SOO Line, & BN on the LS&I, as well as some steam with 261 & 1003 at Locations like Gladstone Yard, Wells Bridge over the Escanaba River, Bark River, Powers, Daggett with some Wig-Wag Signals, Stephenson, Wallace, Menomonee, Peshtigo Wisconsin, the Green Bay area with Norwood Yard, the National Railroad Museum with Milwaukee Road 767, Soo Line 2718 & Union Pacific Big Boy 4017, & North Side Yard, plus Marinette, Pensaukee, Hermansville, Norway WI, the Niagara Paper Mill, Spaulding, Rapid River Bridge at Whitefish, Isabella, Cooks, Manistique, Gulliver, Gilchrest, Cathy, Trout Lake, Soo St. Marie with Edward L. Ryerson on the St. Mary’s River, Bellevue Bridge, Searchmont, Kinross, Rudyard (named after the creator of the Jungle Book), Newbury, Engadine, Escanaba, & more.

Fun fact: On 261’s 4th of July 1998 excursion, Pentrex was also there which was covered in “Steam ’98”.

The music in the opening & closing credits was also used in some titles by TM Books & Video, but sadly since 2001 despite that these scenes were shot in the late 90s, the WC has since been purchased by Canadian National.

Several producers have offered volumes documenting the various segments of the WC but none have captured the detail and explanations that plets has. Plets is one of my favorite producers because of his ability to share with the viewers the background and information. I love this look at the northern lines where SDL action is frequent.
