Trains move year ’round, even in places where winter can make the simplest tasks a challenge. This is a great look at railroading on the Duluth, Missabe & Iron Range’s Missabe Division in northeastern Minnesota in some of the most difficult conditions Mother Nature has to offer. Some of the video is now more than 30 years old, so there are some nice scenes of DM&IR’s older power working the line. The wintry landscape is starkly beautiful, and heavy snow and brittle cold even change the way the trains sound. The videography is exceptional in what must have been some very difficult conditions. The second part of this series covers winter on the DM&IR’s Iron Range Division. Together, they make nice additions to any collection!
