Heavy snow and 70 m.p.h. winds mark this visit to Marias Pass. You’ll see lots of dash 9s in both Heritage schemes, and a number of warbonnets, plus SD40-2s, including some still wearing Cascade Green. Taped between Blackfoot and West Glacier, all the favorite locations including Two Medicine Bridge, Spotted Robe, Bison, False Summit, Marias, Java, and Essex. While taping a BNSF westbound intermodal train went off the bridge at East Glacier. See some of the clean-up work the next day and the first train to pass the wreck site.

One of North America’s most picturesque railroad settings in some of its most challenging weather. Early BNSF paint schemes and Warbonnets still rule Marias Pass … and there’s even some BN green! And there’s something magical about watching a headlight materialize out of heavy, blowing snow. The videography is very well done in conditions that must have been as difficult for the photographer as they were for the trains. Five stars for the video, ten stars for the effort!

Mountain pass’s are a challenge for railroads, and add in the weather elements like winter…. the challenge dramatically increases. While maybe not the best video this producer has ever made, we have to give him credit for going after this challenge. Marias Pass is beautiful, in any season. Ok…. the narration could have been better, and so could the locations filmed. But it is not easy for a videographer to work in these conditions. When you take a good look at what is here with the heavy trains working to get through the pass, in poor weather conditions, you will enjoy this video.

Good video for those who love winter Railroading and Marias Pass it self.
