Here is the Viewliner story from Amtrak’s prototypes, to design, construction, and revenue service.

Visit the historic Pullman complex south of Chicago where the car shells were fabricated and tested. Installation work and completion of the fifty sleepers took place at the former Erie shops in Hornell, New York. Sidebars show new California cars along with a variety of transit projects underway.

Then, journey aboard the Lake Shore Limited and watch the fault monitoring system go into action. Passengers evaluate the new cars, and a spokesman discusses the formation of the holding compaay, Amerail, that would build these cars for Amtrak. Learn how many hours, welds, and miles of wire are required per car! Things to contemplate as the passing panorama of America is viewed from your upper bunk.

I have always wanted to ride in one of these but I have not as of yet. This is the best thing in rail travel that is really a hit with passengers on most of Amtrak’s East Coast Long Distance trains that take you anywhere you would like to go. I am sure I will enjoy this video and might get me in the mood to ride in one of these cars if ever I decide to go Florida or somewhere on Amtrak.
