Part One of JPM’s “Conrail Southern Tier” series uses video from railfan Dave Deyo to explore Conrail’s former Erie trackage between Deposit, New York and Gang Mills Yard in Erwin, New York. We’ll see Conrail and Delaware & Hudson trains (via trackage rights) from 1979 through 1985. This fascinating look at railroad history is narrated, with commentary, by Mike Bednar. Conrail took over the entire Southern Tier line, between Suffern and Buffalo, on April 1st, 1976. In the 1999 breakup of Conrail, Norfolk Southern got the Southern Tier Line and today you’ll see NS freights along with various commuter railroads using the line closer to NYC.
