Trains work their way across the Snake River Plain through small towns, farms, and wild, open country. Water tanks from the steam era remain at Bliss, Kimama, Minnidoka, and Wapi and classic code lines still follow the rails creating a sense of nostalgia. We find an old passenger and freight depot at Shoshone as well as a preserved Amtrak waiting area, a throwback to when the Pioneer once ran on these rails. This is Union Pacific’s scenic – and busy – Oregon Short Line route between Bliss and Pocatello.

The Eastern Idaho Railroad interchanges with the UP at Minnidoka and we will see it in action at Acequia and Rupert. One of the most impressive features of the Nampa Subdivision is the crossing of the Snake River at the American Falls Dam. The program wraps up at UP’s busy yard in Pocatello. Modern UP trains rolling over classic rails in a timeless setting best describes this look at Union Pacific’s Idaho Main Line Part 3.

This program was shot in May and July, 2022.

In part 3 of 7Idea’s Idaho mainline series, there is even more diesel action in the west, this time from Bliss with a water tower from the steam years to Pocatello yard at locations like Gooding at Milepost 336.2, Land O’Lakes (not the butter based company), Shoshone at MP321.8 with a former shelter for Amtrak’s Since Discontinued Pioneer Zephyr, Dietrich at MP314.7, Owinza at MP305, Senter at MP297, Kimama at MP289.1 with another water tower from the steam years as well as an abandoned boxcar built in 1959, Minidoka at MP271.3 with another water tower from the steam years, the Twin Falls Branch at Acequia & Rupert, Hawley siding at MP267, Wapi siding with another water tower from the steam years, Quigley siding at MP249.1 near American Falls, with a dam, a bridge, & a siding, Schiller at MP226.8, & Don at MP221 with the power plant.

Aside from Union Pacific, there are other road names like J.D. Heiskell & Company, Kansas City Southern, Canadian National, CSX, the Eastern Idaho Shortline, & Norfolk Southern.

Stock footage from the first 2 parts are shown in the opening credits.
