Project RailFund

RailfanDepot receives much from the railfan community. Not only do you railfans make sure all of us (4 full time and 2 part time) have dinner and a roof over our heads, but you allow us to be gainfully employed doing what we enjoy…working around trains! We feel we need to give back to the railfan community.

Project RailFund is our way of doing that. RailfanDepot has seeded Project RailFund with $1,000 to help fund railfan groups and railfan projects or restoration efforts. We know $1,000 is a tiny, tiny amount when the need is so big. But we don’t intend to leave it there. $1,000 is a start. There are many small projects that a small amount of money might make a big difference. We’ll start there. Over time we will come up with special sales where all profits will go to Project RailFund. We hope to convince producers to donate products to the cause. And as we become more successful, we’ll kick in more and more. And you can help too.

Three ways you can participate

• We have set up a special PayPal account just for this fund. There will be no commingling of monies. You can donate using a PayPal account or by Credit Card, all through this special donation account. RailfanDepot will pay all fees. The full amount of your donation will go into the fund. Every donor will be recognized. Please note: We are not yet a tax-deductible organization. That takes a lot of legal stuff. It’s on the to-do list. • We also want your input into projects that need funding. Keep in mind funding will be low for awhile, but it will be meaningful to small projects. We don’t plan on focusing primarily on restoration projects. Do you know of a railfan group that needs help with archive preservation? Or something similar? Let us know. • One organization or project will receive funding each quarter. And we want you to help us choose the worthy project. Of those projects that come to our attention we will pick three and ask you via our emails to vote. The project with the most votes will be funded that quarter. More about funding below.
