The Hassayampa Special In 1991, Grande Canyon Railway 2-8-0 No. 18 led a rare off-line trip along “The Peavine.” Departing Williams, Arizona, the vintage train completed its 205-mile journey in two days, passing Ash Fork, Little Hell Canyon, Hell Canyon Bridge, and the Hassayampa River on its way to Phoenix. 23 minutes.

Whether it’s cold in the West Virginia winter with 614, or hot in the desert with LS&I number 18 (since moved to alamosa Colorado), these 2 engines can show railfans that steam still stands forever, especially in their own once in a lifetime specials.

Awesome video, I love seeing a C&O Greenbrier pulling heavy coal trains in the winter despite freezing temperatures. Also the special train run by the Grand Canyon Railroad on Santa Fe’s Peavine with Engine 18 that once serve on the Grand Canyon is pretty spectacular too. I would definitely recommended this to anyone who loves steam locomotives.
