We worked our way from Huntley over Bozeman Hill, Winston Hill and Mullan Pass, along the Clark Fork with its semaphores to the famous causeway near Sand Point. We had lots of snow, blowing around in the sunshine on Bozeman, sunshine and heavy snow on Mullan, and got out to the old Milwaukee Trestle at Lombard (what a drive on snow covered dirt roads that was). We caught just about all the power MRL has to offer including F45’s, GP9’s and a caboose, BN power including the new C44’s in Heritage paint, and even an 11 unit lash up in heavy snow. See the MRL with older power in the depths of winter.

Come watch EMD’s in their glory days. You want MRL F45’s leading? Then this DVD is for you! A nice look at the MRL in the late 90’s. I felt like the program as a whole was a little over exposed (too bright) but aside from that, really good.

  2. Dan

A nice look at how train crews deal with the challenges of a rugged landscape and inhospitable weather. There’s a good cross-section of the MRL’s late ’90s power roster, and the relatively new BNSF adds color to the Montana railroad scene. Great videography in difficult conditions, and the cold and snow add a different dimension to the sound of the trains. Well done, Highball!

  3. Lloyd

Montana Rail Link had some very interesting power at the time of this video production. From Geep 9’s to SD45’s…. they were put to work in the winter. Lots of interesting action in the snow and very cold weather. BNSF also using trackage rights with run throughs adds to the excitement of the winter action. Another great winter production by Highball.
