The company’s motto was …We Have the Connections!…and this program has them as well, including the Penn Central and Erie Lackawanna in Lima, PC and Conrail in Quincy, and the Louisville and Nashville at Decoursey. Highlights also include a 1957 cab ride over the south end between Jackson and Springfield, surprising film of Bicentennial unit 1776, and a brief look at second-cousins Ann Arbor and Michigan Interstate.

In this installment of the Clear Block’s Vignettes series, there are a collection of films of this already gone fallen flag railroad in Ohio which features animated maps of the DT&I’s Mainline.

A great variety of diesels are shown at locations like Delray Tower in Detroit, Penford Tower, Flat Rock Yard, Alexis Tower at the North side of Toledo with a look inside the building as well as a caboose referenced to a Canadian Pacific Royal Hudson on one of the freights, Delta, Columbus Grove, Ottowa, XN Junction, KN tower at Leipsic, Lima which is known for assembling almost 8000 Steam & diesel engines, Sugar Street Tower with a look inside the building, Lincoln Park, the Miami River Bridge & Morgan Tower (with a look inside the building) at Quincy, Springfield, Maitland Tower, Carney Junction, York Street Service Yard, Cold Springs Tower with an early Conrail unit referenced to a Reading T1, Dayton, Evendale, Latonia Junction, Pace between Xenia & South Charleston, ride between Bainbridge & Waverly in 1952, Bloom Junction, Rosewood during the Blizzard of 1978, Jackson with a New Year’s Eve 1957 farewell trip for one of the crew members with a cab ride to Gregs, Summit, Spottersville, Thrifton, Washington Court House, Jeffersonville, & South Souland.

Aside from the DT&I, there are other road names like Ann Arbor, Conrail (due to the fact that it was filmed in the 70s & early 80s), B&O with a cab ride on a Budd car in 1966, C&O, N&W, Pennsylvania, Erie Lackawanna, New York Central, Penn Central, Chessie System, L&N, Seaboard, & Nickel Plate Road with Alco PAs, 2-8-2 number 803 in 1951 on a freight with a flatbed of tractors, & Berkshire 752, plus 779 sitting on display at Lima.

When first released on VHS, this program was made in 1994.

  2. Aw

Excellent footage. Quite rare scenes. I love the DT&I if you are a fan you need to buy. I think Clear Block Productions was one of the best producers on the market. It is a shame that he didn’t get to produce more videos.
