Here are the railroad hot spots local railfans – known as trainspotters in the UK – watch trains in northeast Great Britain.

We begin with a look at Barnetby, one of Britain’s hottest spots for freight. Trains from two oil refineries, scheduled iron ore to the steel mills at Scunthorpe, with returning empties, and coal trains run through Barnetby. Passenger trains round out the parade and make for a busy location. Barnetby also still has impressive stands of semaphore signals, and is one of the last strongholds of class 60s.

Next we’re off the East Coast Main Line at York Station with its arched roof, and finally it’s busy Doncaster on the electrified West Coast Main Line.

  1. Lloyd

British railroading differs somewhat from North American railroading primarily with the look of the power units and speed of the trains….. especially the commuter /passenger trains. There is no shortage of traffic here, and the trains are very interesting to watch. Beautiful commuter stations are seen as well as very interesting scenery through the region notes. Great video. I think most rail fans will enjoy this one.

WHAT AN INTERESTING FILM THIS IS ABOUT BRITISH RAIL. I HAVE BEEN ON BRITISH RAIL AND ALL I CAN SAY IS I THINK BRITISH RAIL IS A LITTLE BETTER THAN US RAIL. IN THIS FILM YOU WILL SEE ALL TYPES OF RAIL ACTION, FROM FREIGHT ACTION TO PASSENGER TRAIN ACTION TO COMMUTER TRAIN ACTION. SEE COAL TRAINS RUNNING THROUGH BARNETLY. SEE THE LAST STRONG HOLDS OF THE CLASS 60’S. VISIT YORK WITH ITS ARCHED ROOF AND DONCASTER AND THE ELECTRIC WEST COASTLINE. THIS IS A GREAT FILM FOR BRITISH RAIL LOVERS. 5 STARS AND 2 HOURS LONG.
