In August of 2002, former Santa Fe steam locomotive 3751 returned to the rails for a thrilling excursion from Los Angeles to Williams, Arizona and return in honor of the NRHS 2002 National Convention. Leaving Los Angeles, the mighty 4-8-4 battled the grades of Cajon Pass before setting out across the desert to Needles, thrilling spectators with her awesome displays of steam power. The following day, the 3751 completed the trip to Williams where she prepared to head up the Grande Canyon Limited excursion.

This highlight of the Convention featured the 3751 running on the Grande Canyon Railway, double-heading and triple-heading with GC Ry’s own steam power! The scenic splendor of South Rim vistas framing nostalgic images of double-headed and triple-headed steam on the rails – it’s an incredible sight that can’t be beat! On the return trip from Williams to Los Angeles, 3751 made a rare-mileage trip over “the Peavine” and the Arizona & California Railroad via Parker. An exciting finale over Cajon and into the Los Angeles Basin winds up a magnificent steam event!
Bonus Footage: 37 minutes of deleted scenes which are not included in the VHS version.

Wonderful scenery from California to Arizona and back with Santa Fe 3751 on a passenger train with two Amtrak diesels serving as helpers. The grand canyon railway’s own steam locomotives put on a great show too, the amazing lineup of steam at the grand canyon depot and the many private railcars that participate in the NRHS Convention Special. The doubleheader with Santa Fe 3751 & CB&Q 4960 was awesome even the tripleheader in the evening. Great video to watch I love it.

High-steppin 3751, the Pride Of California, as she is so often called, put on quite a show with the addition of Grand Canyon Railway’s steamers. It was a sight we would never forget… This NRHS Convention was probably the busiest they had been in a long time.

A great program featuring 3751 heading to the Grand Canyon with a long passenger train. Listen to that locomotive build up speed at Veredmont. And then start from a dead stop on Cajon after an issue with one of the cars. Seeing the engine on the Grand Canyon rails and with their two Steam Engines is a sight to behold. And seeing the train traveling to and from Williams across the Desert is something to always remember. Great program.

This program covers the 3751’s journey to and from Williams, along with highlights from the NRHS Convention, such as both double and tripleheading with the Grand Canyon Railways own steam locomotives.

Nothing but excellence with this DVD. So many surprises on this DVD, just like all Pentrex titles. it is a must have!

The double and triple heading of 3751 and GCR’s steam power and I love the entire journey to and from L.A. to Williams (and even to the Grand Canyon).
