Southern Pacific steam abounds in this collection of rare color films from the 1930s to the 1950s. Included are:

Southern Pacific 1941 (30 Minutes)
Spectacular scenery sets the tone for great shots of SP locomotives in San Francisco, Oakland, Roseville, and on Donner Pass. You’ll see 2-8-0s, 2-8-2s, 4-6-2s, 4-8-2s, 2-10-2s, Cab Forwards, and even SP ferry boats in action. The extraordinary color footage used in this show was shot between 1936 and 1941.

Southern Pacific Steam (30 Minutes)Filmed in the 1950s, these images capture commuter trains on the San Francisco Peninsula, freight and passenger operations in the San Joaquin Valley, mail trains on the Coast Line, and more. The locomotive types range from 0-6-0s to Cab Forwards, and the variety in this priceless retrospective is awesome.

Southern Pacific: The Coast Line (30 Minutes)
Experience the thrill of Daylights racing up the California coast from Los Angeles to King City in the 1950s. You’ll also view Black Widow F-units and Cab Forwards pulling long, heavy freight trains. Special highlights feature Cab Forwards in helper service and doubleheaders with steam and early diesels. It’s an amazing collection.

This is a Pentrex Best Seller.

This program features tons of unique scenes that were filmed during the golden days of steam on the SP. You’ll see everything from Daylights and Cab Forwards, to many of the other classes of steam that the SP utilized, as well as some early diesels.

  2. Curtis Watson

Fantastic scenes! It’s surreal to see how different everything was back then!

  3. collinvarney24

This is truly amazing to me with steam power on the SP. The Union Pacific’s city of San Francisco also makes an appearance in SP 1941 as well as 4449 in her glory days on the SP.

  4. rickyfreni

With Mike Berger’s beautiful narration, this 3 in 1 combo features great action with a mix of steam and diesel powered trains in the west. If you’re wondering where they come from, here’s the revealed years: the 1941 video was the first volume from 1988, the steam video was volume 3 from 1989, and the coast line was volume 5 in 1991.

VERY INTERESTING COLLECTION OF MOVIES ON THIS DVD, SPANNING FROM THE 1930’S TO THE 1950’S. THERE ARE 3 SEPARATE MOVIES IN THIS COLLECTION. “SOUTHERN PACIFIC 1941” WHICH IS APPROX. 30 MINUTES LONG, AND VERY INFORMATIVE AND IN COLOR TO BOOT, THE SECOND ONE ON “SOUTHERN PACIFIC STEAM” FILMED IN THE 1950’S, CAPTURING PASSENGER AND FREIGHT TRAINS OF THAT PERIOD OF TIME. THE 3RD ONE “SOUTHERN PACIFIC: THE COAST LINE” SHOWING THE TRAINS GOING UP AND DOWN THE COAST LINE FROM LOS ANGELES TO KING CITY IN THE 1950’S. ALL 3 TITLES WERE SEPARATE PROGRAMS BY VIDEO RAILS. 5 STARS AND 90 MINUTES LONG.

  6. Ricky

These 3 titles were originally separate programs by Video Rails: The 1941 program, the steam program and the Coast Line. The theme song to these were awesome and amazing. Some film was originally silent and so appropriate sound has been added to the historically significant films.
