Southern California is host to a dazzling array of railfanning opportunities. Here’s a whirlwind tour of great Southern California railroading adventures. You’ll be at Tehachapi Pass, Cajon Pass, San Timoteo Canyon, Colton, Fullerton, Wilmington, San Clemente, Plaster City, Campo, Cadiz and more. The railroads you’ll see include BNSF, Union Pacific, Amtrak, Coaster, Arizona & California, Trona, San Joaquin Valley, Pacific Harbor Line, Carrizo Gorge, U.S. Gypsum narrow gauge, Fillmore & Western, Orange Empire Railway Museum, and the San Diego Railroad Museum. Extra treats include the Ringling Bros. Barnum & Bailey circus train at Tehachapi Loop, a special train of wind-powered generating equipment and a train of military equipment in San Timoteo Canyon, and a Swift RoadRailer train. Modern high-horsepower locomotives from BNSF and UP abound, and you’ll also enjoy the sights of motive power from Soo Line, CSX, CN, KCS, MRL, and NS. Sound like fun? Southern California Rails is that and then some!

From Lamada Park Productions (the same company behind specials & volume 1 of Train meets), there are a huge variety of diesels on both Union Pacific & BNSF especially some appearances by other road names (CSX, CN, Soo line, & others)

Aside from the Mainline freights on Cajon Pass, Tehachapi Loop, Bealville, Mojave & many other locations in the region, there is also Amtrak’s Surfliner, & a short line known as the Trona Railway.

For Tourist operations, the Orange Empire Railway Museum in Perris is included, as well as the San Diego Railroad museum in Campo near the Mexico Border, & the since been going out of business attraction known as the second railroad for Hollywood use: The Fillmore & Western. Not to mention another company which at one time, it was the longest train set ever assembled until it’s final run in 2017: the Ringling Bros. Circus train.
