A head-end ride on Amtrak’s Southwest Chief between Needles and Los Angeles during daylight hours. Most of this trip is usually at night. The view is mostly straight ahead, but there are some shots of the crew and of the engineer at the controls.

There are four DVDs needed to get the entire trip in: Needles to Siberia, Siberia to Barstow, Barstow to San Bernardino, and San Bernardino to Los Angeles.

Train meets, great scenery, rock-solid videography and something of a rarity for this trip: daylight! For most of the more than six hour program the view is straight ahead, with just enough shots of the crew and the cab interior to add visual interest. This is a fresh look at a legendary route, and a fine addition to any railfan video library.

COME ALONG FOR AN AMAZING RIDE ON THE SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA CAB RIDE. 1 ST OF ALL THIS IS A 4 DVD SET AND OVER 6 HOURS LONG. SEE THIS HEAD ON RIDE ON THE SOUTHWEST CHIEF FROM NEEDLES TO LOS ANGELES. IT VERY UNUSUAL TO SEE THIS TRAIN IN THE DAYLIGHT, MOST OF THE SCENES ARE SHOT AT NIGHT BUT GET TO SEE GREAT SCENERY, AND MOST OF THE VIEW ARE STRAIGHT AHEAD. YOU WILL NEED 4 DVDS FOR THIS TRIP. 5 STARS.

  3. Ricky

Filmed on One day During March 1999, this 4 part set features great desert scenery, as well as meets with BNSF Freights, and some Metrolink Commuter Trains into LA. Its really Rare to see the chief operating in the late morning sun because of unexpecting delays, making this visit really rare indeed. Usually at sunset & sunrise, but this 4 part set, Rare Late morning sun.
