This former B&O line is famous the world over: Come join us a for a two hour look at Sand Patch Grade. Shot over the Memorial Day weekend of 1992, we see trains at most of the famous Sand Patch locations, meets at the tunnel, and the long valiant struggle up grade with the train finally stalling! You’ll see lots of different power from elderly B23s to new C40-BWs, GP4Os to SD50s. And you’ll see a lot of different paint schemes, from B&O blue to Chessie to Stealth and CSX “Bright Future”.

From SD40-2’s to Today’s Standard & Wide Cab Dash 8’s, not to mention other road names like Baltimore & Ohio, Seaboard, Chessie System, Union Pacific, & even Amtrak’s Capitol Limited, this program features a bunch of freight action at locations like Keystone near the Old Western Maryland Bridge, somewhere west of Sailsbury Viaduct, the Horseshoe Curve & log cabin at Mance, the Double Track Tunnel near the Summit of Sand Patch (note the flatbed of John Deere Tractors), Manilla Curve, Glencoe, Philsom, & many unidentified landmarks with milepost signs.

All in All, Peter Falconni did a marvelous job narrating this recently turned 30-year-old program.

One of Highball’s early releases, and still a favorite! The video was shot nearly 30 years ago, which means locomotive models and train consists from a generation ago, and a nice variety of early CSX paint schemes and locomotives still wearing the colors of its predecessors. The scenery is great, and you can expect Highball’s usual solid, creative camerawork from all the best known Sand Patch locations. This is two hours of nostalgia and just plain railfanning fun!

At two hours long, this is a great video. It covers many railfan locations and clearly defines them. Many different locomotive models and paint schemes are shown. Whether you’ve ever been to Sandpatch or not, this is worth buying at this price.

I love the old era motive power on CSX. Lots of chessie, seaboard, ACL, L&N etc. My favorite CSX gray and blue schemes, if your a fan of early CSX or it’s predecessors, this is your video.
