I loved this video of one of the classic rail routes!! Sure, the straight-ahead view misses much of the surrounding scenery, but I can see that from the highway! What I want from a cab ride is a really good look at the road itself, the engineering challenges and how they were overcome. The engineer is a great talker – full of interesting facts and anecdotes. The director makes excellent and appropriate use of the inset screen technique as well. The key locations are also very well identified. All in all, a cab ride which those of us who like this sort of video (and that’s not everybody) will really enjoy!

Personally…. I like cab rides. As a Canadian, I thought that it be great to see a cab ride video through the Rocky Mountains. This video did not thrill me. The majority of the camera work is straight ahead, with a few shots looking back at the passenger cars that was making the trip. The picture in a picture is a nice idea, but it takes away from the full scene, and causing somewhat of a distraction from the main scene. This is one of North America’s most scenic regions, and it would have been nice to see much more of that than what the camera picks up. Multiple camera shots and locations would really have enhanced this video, based on where it was filmed. If you like cab rides… you better “really” like them before considering this one, and if you are unsure about cab rides…. leave it alone.
