A whirlwind tour of an area with a lot to offer the railfan … colorful locomotives, interesting consists and settings with personality! BNSF and UP are the major railroads here, with plenty of surprises along the way. And in a sprawling urban setting like Houston, the backdrop changes dramatically from location to location … and Highball visits many of them! The videography is very well done and, like Highball’s other “Around” programs … including “Rails Around St. Louis” and “Rails Around The Metroplex” (Dallas – Fort Worth) … this is a great way to plan a railfan outing or to just enjoy big time urban railroading from the comfort of your living room.

An additional footnote to my previous review, At the end of this program, running nearly 3 minutes, startup footage of SP 7855, 7824 B30-7’s departing Rosenberg Tower. SP 7855 still exist as West Tennessee 7855 out of Jackson, Tennessee, where I hope, a program will be forth coming in the future.

Houston seems to have nearly as many junctions as Chicago, without the number of Railroads. Highlights of this program, for me, was seeing UP and SP B23-7’s and B30-7’s in action moving slowing through Belt and Rosenberg Junctions The SP 7861 footage, was particularly much needed and enjoyable for me, being a Dash 7 fan. A great shot of a SP Snoot Tunnel Motor with recently painted Speed Lettering was a nice shot as well. Lots of variety in this program. This program, like many 4:3 full screen Highball programs does have a jitter problem, but not too distracting. Thanks again to Peter Crook for searching out locations, missed or avoided by other producers. Well worth the effort

Big city railroading always has a lot to offer. This video is no exception. Lots of interesting locations in and around the metro city complex. Lots of trains from various companies, Interesting paint schemes. Amtrak also is seen. Another fine production.

Houston see’s lots of Union Pacific and BNSF action. It is also home to
Port Terminal Railroad, with the unique colored MK1500’s. Also home to lots of chemical traffic. See some hot spots like Belt Junction, Tower 26, Tower 87 and many, many more. A great Dvd about the railroading around the Houston area. 4 stars and 1 hour and 45 minutes long.
