Across rolling prairies, grassland plains, over immense bridges and through scenic badlands, the rail lines criss-crossing America’s Heartland carry the freight that nourishes a continent and beyond. In this presentation you will see railroads at work in the late summer in three separate years. Countless locations are covered as we bring you the drama on three class one operations along with numerous short line and regional railroads. Agriculture developed these railroads and many still depend on it, however the need for energy keeps many lines polished with coal from the Powder River Basin and oil from the Bakken Oil Fields in Northwestern North Dakota and nearby Canada.
br>We’ll see BNSF over many bridges & trestles, Canadian Pacific’s ex-SOO Line through North Dakota, Union Pacific’s triple-track mainline in Nebraska, ALCOs on the Arkansas & Missouri and shortlines and regionals.
br>Narrated, Dolby 5.1 audio, 2 discs.

Railroading Across the Heartland… “Prairies, Plains, Bridges & Badlands”. The title says it all to perfection. An action filled video in several different states (Nebraska, North Dakota, Iowa, Missouri, etc…) primarily BNSF & Canadian Pacific rail lines with some shortline activity. Opening with some great scenes from the badlands, then onto large bridges…. we are captivated from the beginning with the excellent camera work. And it keeps on going. Narration is very informative, with some geography and historical information, yet limited to enjoy the natural sounds of the railroads working. Screen graphics keep us informed as to locations so it is easy to follow along with a map in hand. One of the things I really enjoy with this video is the setup of the menu’s. Each menu is of a specific location and stays on topic during the playing of the menu. Very easy to follow along and return to later for follow-ups of certain regions. My wife and I have been to some of the locations in Nebraska and North Dakota and live within a 7 hour drive (600km) of some of the featured locations. Thanks to BKVP, we now have better ideas on locations to return for rail fanning when on 3 day weekends away from the cows here at home. A railroad video should be presented in a way that rail fans can picture themselves at trackside. This video does that in excellent ways. Well done. High praise. If there was an Academy Award for railroad videos, this one would win. Definitely recommended to all railroad video fans.

Filmed 2013 to 2015. Shows numerous lines in North Dakota, Minnesota, Nebraska, Missouri, Iowa, Arkansas, and Oklahoma. We see action on 3 class ones, several regionals, and short lines. There seemed to be an emphasis on grain / agriculture, Powder River Basin Coal, and notably the boom in Bakken Oil and related trains.
