The Post WWII built 4-8-4 puts on a marvelous show for Railfans of all ages at a variety of locations like Appomattox, Burkeville, Crewe, Sutherland, Windsor, New Bohemia, turning on the wye at Poe, waiting at Petersburg, Manassas, the horseshoe curve at Plains Station, making 2 photo runbys at Belvoir, Rectortown, Delaplane, Linden Hill, in a heavy downpour at Front Royal after turning on the wye, Jack Junction, Farmville, & many more spots.

Along the way, 611 makes meets with several Norfolk Southern Freights, as well as pacing sequences.

Some of these scenes were also used in the Main Line Motion Pictures’ Steep Steel & Slipping Stalling Steam Series.

Had bought this DVD from another source a long time ago… My suggestion is:
If you are looking for a pretty STELLAR “sneak peek” at what the Norfolk Southern Steam Program was like in the early 1990s, then this DVD fits the bill. If you are looking for some additional “bang for your buck”, then you should definitely purchase the THREE DVD set from Mainline Motion Pictures which includes a couple 611 trips from 1983. It is a whole extra hour of programming.

A nice look back on the NS Steam Excursions right before the plug was pulled. My favorite scenes are on the 1993 disc: 611 slipping while performing the photo run-by at Belvoir, VA and more slipping later that day in a thunderstorm.

    It’s a good documentary.

This is a great DVD of the 611 and is a great buy. Lots of great footage of one of the most renowned mainline locomotives in the US.
