Travel to the legendary Feather River Canyon and see this historic line between Oroville and Portola, California.

This program will show you many highlights of the canyon including: the famous bridges at Pulga, Clio Trestle, Serpentine Canyon, Williams Loop (where trains loop over themselves), and the famous Keddie Wye. Catch the legendary “Broncos” escorting trains through the rain, when the risk of rock slides and washouts is high. This is historic Western Pacific trackage, now the UP’s Canyon Sub. You will see the Quincy Railroad in action and take a ride on their EMD SW7 switcher up and down the 4% grade which connects a local Sierra Pacific sawmill with the UP. At Portola, we spend some time at the Western Pacific Railroad Museum where the WP lives. You will even witness steam locomotive UP 844 making a special appearance as the UP celebrates 100 years of railroading in the Feather River Canyon!

In Northern California, there are various locations along the feather river route such as Oroville, James, Poe, Pulga, Rock Creek Trestle, Tobin, the Honeymoon Tunnels, Serpentine Canyon, Virgilia, The Keddie Wye, Quincy Junction, Williams Loop, Spring Gardem, Clio Trestle, & the Western Pacific railroad museum at Portola.

Besides the busy mainline freights with Union Pacific Power, other road names are shown throughout the program like Rio Grande, BNSF, Canadian National, Sierra Pacific, & the best for last: 844 with heritage unit 1983 in April & May of 2009.

Today’s heavy-duty railroading, a legendary setting and 7idea’s flair for the dramatic make this a “must have”! You’ll see all the iconic Feather River Canyon locations, and some that are rarely seen. The videography is exceptional, with a nice mix of trackside shots and panoramic views that show just how challenging the geography can be for the railroad. And the scenes of Union Pacific steam locomotive 844 are nice tribute to the long history of this scenic line. Another five-star effort from 7idea!.

7idea Productions did an outstanding job. Love the history and the scenery is wide open. It’s enjoyable to watch and understand the stories from the early days to what it is today.
