Enjoy a head-end ride aboard a mile and a half long train of coal empties on the Indiana Rail Road from Newton, Illinois to Terre Haute, Indiana with multiple cameras on-board. This is a two part series, and in this volume, Newton to Riverton, you’ll ride the Illinois segment for this train from the power plant, to the Indiana border at the Wabash River. Don’t be fooled that Illinois is flat. This is a very hilly section, and the railroad has one stretch of 3 percent grade. The audio is just as interesting as the video. We placed microphones on the exterior of the units, and you’ll enjoy great natural sound as your train roars alone (there is no sound from the interior of the locomotive cab).

In this installment of the Indiana Railroad Cab Ride Collection, the program was recorded on March 26, 2014, as the weather is clear & sunny.

Throughout the cab ride, a pair of Union Pacific AC4400CW units 5967 & 5635 are leading an empty coal train in eastern Illinois while 5565 is pushing on the rear.

Aside from the cab ride itself, there are also a handful of trackside scenes mostly in the opening clips.

Locations Include: the Dynegy power plant in Newton Illinois, Embarras River, Willow Hill, Oblong, Robinson, Palestine, & ends at the Wabash River on the Indiana State Line.

At one time, the Indiana Railroad used to be a narrow gauge company.

All in all, not only did Les Jarret perform a Well-Done job filming the Indiana railroad, but also doing his own narration as well.

very interesting video. Lots of different camera action shows great views of what the crew sees. It is mainly flat farm land that the rails travel through with a few rolling hills, however… the scenery is still interesting even though there are no leaves on the trees, it looks good for rail fanning. The video producers do a fine job with an overhead map to explain where they are going at the beginning of the video. Narration is informative and the narrator has knowledge of the railroad and the area it travels through. Well done.

This is a great well made DVD, It covers the Western end of the INRD system and covers all the little towns, yards and sidings. The camera angles are excellent.
