Tehachapi Loop: One of the 7 Railroad Wonders of the World, a National Historic Civil Engineering Landmark, and a railfan favorite! Join us as we follow this favorite stretch of railroad line from Sand Cut to Mojave in perfect late fall weather. BNSF has trackage rights over the UP, and we’ll see trains from both roads, from dawn to sunset, with mostly new power dragging the trains over and through the rugged Tehachapi Mountains. This former Southern Pacific line has been a busy one since it was first built in 1876.

Tehachapi…. one of the railroad wonders of the world. Amaizing to watch the trains circle this work of art. It has been 15 years since Highball produced the 1st video here and while little has changed with the scenic beauty, the power on the trains has changed. UP & BNSF are now the leading characters with up to date power preforming a great show. There is place like Tehachapi, and all railfans will love this one.

Great action, weather, and videography are the highlights. On bluray, the resolution falls short of the capabilities of the medium, although it is superior to DVD. Still not up to 7idea quality though. Sound is better than the two Highball blurays I own covering North Dakota, but could be improved. The mystery remains as to why Peter masters these in Dolby Digital 2.0 but uses a mono source duplicated on both tracks. I would think even the most basic cameras from even 30 years ago could record in stereo.

What makes the Tehachapi loop one of Southern California’s popular hotspots? Well, there is a never ending parade of really long freights in both Union Pacific and BNSF going over and under each other as it loops around a giant curve. Overall, great action for all SoCal Railfans to enjoy again and again.
