Illinois Central’s Yazoo District from Jackson MS to Memphis TN through the flatlands of the Mississippi Delta. You’ll see GP10’s with ox-yoke air filters, black SD40s and shiny new SD7Os with the Illinois Central’s “death star” logo on the nose. It is the summer of 1996 and you get to see Amtrak’s City of New Orleans… and a little bit of some crop dusters who put on a heck of a show for the camera. This is fantastic railroading, and a DVD you will enjoy!

If you like IC, this is a great video. I live about 3 hours east of the Yazoo Sub and it’s just as good now as it was then. Great video

Great scenery, interesting consists and … now that the video is 25 years old … a fascinating roster of older locomotives wearing IC’s plain yet handsome black-and-white paint scheme. Look for Highball’s usual top-notch videography, with footage from some out-of-the-way locations. A nice snapshot of an often-overlooked region, and a fine addition to any railfan video library.

As a fan of the IC and ICG I have found that it is difficult to try and locate DVDs of these great railroads. While this isn’t the Santa Fe or Union Pacific I LOVED seeing my beloved IC before the CN acquisition. I was surprised to learn that the City of New Orleans also took this subdivision as well. I highly recommend this to someone who liked the IC or ICG, you will not be disappointed!

the Yazoo…. an odd name for a railroad district, but and interesting one. Yazoo is a flat region along/near the Mississippi delta that runs 200 miles between Memphis TN. & Jackson MS. High agricultural belt that making railroading quite interesting. Trains running with crop dusters in the shows is fascinating. Lots of the big black power showing a wonderful parade of trains. A great video to own.

I have to admit, when I first got this DVD (actually VHS at the time) I was left wondering “What the heck is a yazoo?” Can I use the phrase “Highball down the yazoo” in bed? Well, let me tell you this, it’s not recommended.
Anyway, I had plenty of time to watch this once I was kicked out to the couch. Lots of good IC action, shows its character well before the CN takeover.
