Here is a system-wide look at the Duluth Winnipeg & Pacific Railway. The railroad is located in beautiful arrowhead region of northeastern Minnesota, the rail line starts at the Pokegama yard near Superior, Wisconsin and travels 165 miles north to a connection with corporate parent CN North America at Ranier, Minnesota. The action includes: mainline freights, yard switching, transfers and a cab ride on DW&P #5906. Plus a look back to the 1970’s when RS11 Alco’s powered the trains with footage at Virginia and the west Duluth yard and tunnel. See connecting railroads: CN North America, Duluth Missabe & Iron Range, Burlington Northern, Soo Line, Chicago & North Western, Wisconsin Central, and the Minnesota Dakota & Western. At International Falls you’ll see the MD&W switching their yard and making a transfer to the DW&P using their rare Alco S2 diesels. Slides by William Eley, RS11 footage by Ben Imbertson.

  1. Matt

Good production of a not commonly shot railroad. You get to hear SD40’s in notch 8 on the mainline and switching in the yard. Good overall quality. Some neat older 8mm footage of RS11’s operating, even have footage of the bicentennial unit leading a passenger excursion.

  2. Dan

A nice tribute to a fallen flag and railfan favorite.
With its usual excellent videography and informative narration, Plets Express documents the entire Duluth Winnipeg & Pacific system across scenic northeastern Minnesota. You’ll see road freights, switching, transfers, a cab ride, and scenes of several other Midwest railroads that have also become fallen flags. Many fans still miss the handsome DW&P paint scheme; thanks to this program, it’s alive and well!

  3. Lloyd

History railroading. A company that is a fallen flag today with the eventual take over by the CNR. Lots of great action from roughly 30 years ago. Everything from yard transfers to mainline action, including a number of other railroads. Added is alco action in the 1970’s. Railfans of all kinds will love this video. Very well done by the Plets family.

I love railroading around the twin ports and this was right up my alley. The DWP was a unique line. A big fan of Plets Express as his videos are put together nicely. Plets Expres really did their research on these productions. I recommend any Plets Videos if you like informative Narration and good picture quality.
