This is footage shot a long time ago. The quality is good all things considered. The footage has been digitally captured, enhanced and mastered but you may see or hear a few minor audio/video glitches. Otherwise this is 3 hours of Conrail action at its prime! Locations in New York include Selkirk, South Schenectady, Guilderland (Frenchs Mills), and more. Locations in Massachusetts include Palmer, Worcester, Westboro, Berkshires and more. Our earliest footage also includes action in Southwest Pennsylvania and Horseshoe Curve. Many entire trains are shown, because if you’re like me, it is so nice to see all those freight cars with no graffiti and from so many railroads that don’t exist anymore.

  1. Dan

A nostalgic return to Conrail’s heyday. At three hours on two discs, this is an in-depth look at what made (and for many of us, continues to make) Big Blue a railfan favorite … a variety of locomotive models, interesting consists, fascinating operations and scenic locations. And don’t let the disclaimers about video quality dissuade you; considering its age, the footage is quite good. Considering the content, it’s priceless.

  2. Lloyd.

At 3 hours long…. we are treated to nearly everything Conrail has to offer at the time frame noted. History preserved and well documented. Like being trackside ourselves….. we see many trains in length, and that adds to the enjoyment. For anyone who loved Conrail…. this is for you.

  3. jimktrains

The DVD starts out with old video tape techniques but is still good and shows interesting Conrail movements. Later the video quality improves and various locations are explored. Trains and locations are identified nicely. At 3 hours, this video shows many Conrail trains in every season. Narration isn’t overdone, the train and location are identified then the viewer is left to watch and hear the train go by. I would recommend this to anyone who has in interest in Conrail.
