Take an in-depth look at the Chicago & NorthWestern Railroad in NW Wisconsin. This footage was shot just prior to the UP taking over the C&NW. Starting in Altoona, you’ll see the rail system covered north to Superior, West to Hudson, and East to Adams, 327 miles in all. This show features beautiful Wisconsin scenery, towns, depots and history. See over 20 different models of working locomotives from EMD, GE, and Alco, including 14 on the C&NW roster. The DVD information includes a 1995 CNW Roster and a map of the area covered.

The action includes yard switching, locals, mainline freights, unit trains, a diesel and caboose pace scene and a cab ride on a local using C&NW SD18 #6622. You’ll also see connecting railroads of Wisconsin Central, Green Bay & Western, and the Duluth Winnipeg & Pacific.

  1. Dan

A fascinating and comprehensive look at the Chicago & North Western, and the key word is “variety”: more than a dozen locomotive types, colorful paint schemes, train movements from road freights to locals and yard switching, a cab ride, a pacing scene, fallen flags, great scenery in an area rich with history and character, and much, much more. The video was shot just before the Union Pacific bought the C&NW in 1995, and the camerawork and editing are very well done. Together with the Plets Express programs “C&NW In South Central Wisconsin” and “C&NW’s Iron Ore Route”, this is the best series on the Chicago & North Western that I’ve seen. Thank you, Plets Express, for keeping the memories alive!

I am a big fan of Plets Express as his videos are put together nicely. Plets Expres really did their research on these productions. I recommend any Plets Videos if you like informative Narration and good picture quality.
