We venture to western Canada in 1999 for a special steam run of Former Canadian National 4-8-2 number 6060. This engine operates on the Alberta Prairie Railroad, and on this trip made a special longer run to Coronation from Stettler, Alberta. 6060 pulls a passenger train of happy patrons who are riding behind Canada’s largest operational steam engine.

Canadian National 6060 was in the last group of steam engines built for the Canadian National in 1944. These Mountain type 4-8-2’s were used in both freight and passenger service until steam ended in 1959. The locomotive is stationed at the Alberta Prairie railroad in Stettler, Alberta today, and runs period trips.

We are inside the cab and out and follow the train and get several good trackside views of the train eastbound to Coronation, and a couple of westbound views, which were run tender-first since there was no way to turn the train in Coronation.6060 is an elegant locomotive and the only operational 4-8-2 in North America.

This program was shot on the same time period for the day at portage la prairie program, & more real railfan themed than the riding the alberta prairie railroad DVD. What’s really strange is that at the end of the program, 6060 would pull the train tender first, then the water car, the main coaches, and the caboose too. The speed for this 58 Minute or 63 Minute Video Is At slower Speed (10-20 mph). I’m Not Sure If any Railfans would Get This 2012 DVD or Not. After All, The Narration Could’ve Used More information to Pick up the speed or Just Try To Include Some Flashback Scenes of 6060.
