Trinchera Pass is on BNSF’s Twin Peaks sub, which runs between Trinidad, Colorado and Texline, Texas, crossing a corner of New Mexico on the way. Highball Productions visited this line just prior to it going to directional running, so we see a variety of running and trains. The line mostly hosts coal trains, with a few manifests for variety. The tracks climb and curve along the side of the mountains before heading along the plateau to Texas. Trinchera Pass is a 15 mile slog of a 1% grade and 6 degree curves.

Grades, curves, heavy trains and a changing landscape … that’s Trinchera Pass. The camerawork is very well done, with video from trackside as well as panoramic shots that add a nice sense of perspective. And the trains sound great working the long one percent grade. This program is almost 20 years old, so you’ll still find a variety of BNSF paint schemes, including Cascade Green. Two great hours of train action!

Never having heard of “Trinchera Pass”, I wanted to video to see where and what it was all about. BNSF works hard pulling coal trains to Texas with the grades and curves. Then there are some other trains just to mix up the parade we see on the video. And the scenery is very pleasant to see. The best part is the thunderstorm. A great light show with a coal train pulling hard. Overall…. I am pleased.

Great Dvd so much action, plenty shot of older trains like the SD70MAC’s and the BN SD60M 9270. Plus the fantastic scenery and the narration is great with an English accent. 5 Star rating.

  4. KC fan

This show is awesome. Plenty of those now rare SD70MACs leading loads of coal, and a nice chase of the BN SD60M 9270, makes for a fantastic production. lots of overpowered trains, fantastic scenery, plus the narrators unique English accent which really makes the tapes. You wont want to miss this one.
