Since its inception Amtrak has focused much of its attention and dollars on the Northeast Corridor. Amtrak has made consistent improvements to service, roadbed, track and equipment. In 1992, Pentrex cameras captured this modern commuter raceway from NYC to Washington D.C. So much great footage was filmed with Amtrak’s cooperation that two videos were released giving viewers an exclusive, insider’s look at Amtrak’s pride and joy. Now both shows have been combined on one Combo DVD, bringing you the whole Northeast Corridor story. Included are:

New York City to Philadelphia
Focusing on this electrified heavily-trafficked portion of the line, our program brings you a fascinating mix of old and new technologies. Trains roar down the electrified mainline at speeds of up to 125 mph, governed by Automatic Block Signals and dispatched from Philadelphia. Yet manned block towers dating back to the turn of the century can still be found in use on the line. Experience over 150 Amtrak and commuter trains in action as you visit Penn Station, Hudson Tower, Newark, Trenton, Princeton Junction, and Zoo Interlocking and the venerable “A” and Zoo towers on your trek from New York City to Philadelphia. (80 minutes)

Philadelphia to Washington, D.C.
Exploring the electrified south end of the system, our cameras capture over 100 commuter and Amtrak trains between Philadelphia and Washington, D.C. You’ll see the action at Eddystone, Pennsylvania; Wilmington, Delaware; Perryville, Havre de Grace, Aberdeen, and Baltimore, Maryland; and the D.C. area. You’ll also go on a private tour of the CETC control center in Amtrak’s 30th Street station and visit Washington Union Station’s “K” tower. A special highlight is a ride in the cab of an AEM 7 locomotive at the head of a Metroliner train doing 125 mph! (80 minutes)

This Dvd is just plain great and awesome. It was made from 2 video’s made back in the ’90’s. It gives the viewer an exclusive look at Amtrak’s pride and joy. Included in this film is the famous NYC to Phl run. This is a very heavily traveled route by Amtrak. Great old and new technologies, with trains traveling as fast as 125 mph. When watching this movie you can see some really good action of more than 150 trains. This is a great Dvd for the price. 5 stars.

It’s 225 miles from New York’s Penn Station to Washington’s Union Station. The slowest train on the line takes a little over 4 hrs, with 5 stops in between today. That’s a fairly good speed for a long distance train (the Silver Star and the Silver Meteor), just 2 of the trains which are witnessed on this movie. Pentrex captures all the action from rail side at Penn Station to Union Station. It’s high speed passenger service at it’s best. There are multiple trains from various companies. Amtrak, NJT, SEPTA, MARC, etc… and even a few Conrail locals are seen. Tour the stations along the way – Penn Station, Philadelphia, Washington and so much more. We see track side and station views with trains passing at 125 mph. Explainations of the engines and who built them. Mainly electrics, but a few diesels along the way. Time is spent in Washington’s and New York’s control centers. And even a cab ride is thrown in. And not forgotten is a few remaining towers still operating at the time of the video production. In 2004, I rode the Silver Star and the Silver Meteor on this entire stretch of rails, and very little has changed. Washington’s Union Station is absolutely beautiful. The video brought back to life the experiences of those fine trips. I enjoyed see the trains passing from rail side over long bridges that I was able to witness from the train as I sat in the diner car. Pentrex has done a fantastic job bringing us this excellent production. It will be a favorate for years to come. No disappointments with the purcahse of this high rated video.
