We begin our look at the trains of Amsterdam, in the Netherlands, at the central station, with electric loco hauled passenger trains, and MU’s, and the light rail near the station. Then it’s out to a local park to see the trains on the main line, then we visit the area around Dordrecht and Lage Zwaluwe for electric passenger and freight trains, diesel freight and Belgian electric loco hauled freights and passenger trains, former East German/Soviet diesels, private operators and the Thalys high speed train to Brussels and Paris.

What a fantastic movie. So many trains, colors, secenery, in your face action. You will see all types of trains, electric, diesel, tram’ s and more. All in all this is a great Dvd. 5 Star rating.

If there was ever a video where the name really suited the video, this is it. “Colourful Trains” most certainly fits. Name the type of trains you like: Commuter, Inter-city, Inter-country, Freight, Electrics, Diesels, Trams. It’s all here. City and country scenes are covered as well. I was amazed as I watched. The colours and the amount of trains, the different styles and types will certainly grab a viewer’s attention. Engines are from around the world, including Class 66’s from EMD in London Ontario, Canada. It’s all here. We see the new unfinished double line for the high speed 185 mph ICE’s that will connect Amsterdam to Paris in a mere 3 hours. The freight trains are different to see. Intermodals look similar, but the other freight cars have differences from North American. Some of the styles of the cars are unique. The major note is that a long train is a mere 40 cars long. Many of the older diesels have a GMD1 look to them with the cabs part way back, and small fuel tanks. The EMD Class 66’s have cabs on both ends, but other wise look similar to the LRC engines that VIA Rail Canada once had. The content of the video is extremely impressive. However, I did think that there could have been more narration, particularly as the video progressed along. My son’s watched with anticipation, asking questions about where their Grandfather (Opa) spent his childhood in Dordrecht, one of the featured locations, yet at this point not much was said on the video, but the trains continue to roll by. What is lacking in narration, the content of the trains makes up for it. No questions about it, this is the finest Highball Production that I have viewed. It’s well worth the price to purchase it. It is a highly rated favorite in my collection.
