It’s a great way to see America by Rail. Appropriate music and informative narration is a great video for anyone to enjoy from District of Columbia to San Francisco.

Have had this DVD for years and always enjoy going back to it on a regular basis… This gives a basic, yet still very complete-looking view of what it would be like to ride this Amtrak journey in person. As other reviewers have said, they give you enough detail to make you feel like you are actually on board with them… The production value is second-to-none. It’s no wonder so many of these tapes have sold over the years!

It’s a great coast to coast train trip from Washington DC to San Francisco onboard Amtrak’s Capital Limited & the California Zephyr.

This program covers an Amtrak train ride from Washington, D.C. to San Franciso, CA. Also included are scenic side trips with both steam and diesels. A must have for any enthusiast interested in onboard action intermingled with trackside views.

This was one of my earliest Railroad movie purchases. Washington to Chicago to San Francisco on Amtrak, with many shortline Tourist Railroads in between. Simply put – your on board in this movie. You can feel the excitement of being on a long distance Passenger train. At trackside at places like Moffat Tunnel, or in the Cab of a Genesis as the trip goes along, the movie is facinating from start to finish. Over 9 years, and my family still enjoys it when I play this movie. Whether on the Amtrak or Potamac Eagle or on a trolly in Iowa, Ohio Central, etc… Also tours of Washington & Chicago’s Union Stations.
This movie is based for the Tourist in all of us, but is mainline action at it’s finest.
Only note that maybe not quite to every person’s taste is some of the music accompliment that goes along with the narration.

This Dvd from 2002 has sold over 100,000 video tapes. The music is great, the scenery is great as well. Going from East to West you will see lots of trains and tourist attractions and destinations, a must have for all train nuts.

What a fantastic movie. Traveling in one of my favorite trains The California Zepher which is an awesome to travel on. The scenery is just fantastic on this one. 5 Stars and a must have dvd.

  8. Chase

A neat video for any railfan to have in their collection. Watched time and time again for its great footage of trains across America along this route. Most definately a must have!

  9. Ricky

This 2002 DVD (1994 tape) had humble beginnings, but, according to reports, it is the best selling train video of all time – selling more than 100,000 video tapes. After all, the music is great as is the scenery. Your trip across the “Heartland” runs east to west and includes many railroads, trains and railroad tourist destinations.
